Somebody stopped behind your van at a light has a few seconds with nothing else to look at. That moment repeats dozens of times a day across a working route in Comstock Park. Here at Grand Rapids Sign Company, we wrap fleet vehicles out of our Walker shop for businesses running those routes. We have wrapped vans that looked incredible under the shop lights and said almost nothing out on the road. Two questions decide whether a fleet wrap works for you, and a proof sheet answers neither one.

The First Question Is Whether Anyone Can Read It

Fleet graphics get approved on a screen where the viewer can zoom in and take their time. A driver behind you gets no zoom and no second look at the same vehicle. Somebody reads one thing before the light changes, then a second thing only if the first one landed fast. Your company name earns the top of that order, and your phone number earns the bottom. Everything else on the panel is competing with those two for the same few seconds.

Where The Artwork Lands On The Panel Matters As Much As Its Size

A cargo van has a body line running its length and a row of rivets along the seam. Artwork crossing either one gets distorted or interrupted, and a phone number split across a body line reads as two separate numbers. We lay out artwork against photos of your own vehicle before anything goes to print. Flat mockups hide that problem completely, which is why so many wraps look wrong once they’re on the metal. A van and a box truck of the same length still need different layouts for the same reason.

Matching Vehicles Build Recognition Faster Than One Wrapped Van

One wrapped van looks like a van somebody wrapped. Eight vehicles carrying the same layout look like a company covering the whole area. A customer who passes your truck on a Tuesday morning and again on Thursday afternoon starts recognizing it without trying. That second sighting does work the first one couldn’t do by itself. We keep your artwork on file so vehicle nine matches vehicle one two years from now.

The Install Isn’t Finished When The Wrap Looks Finished

Film stretched into a recess holds its original flat shape, and heat is what settles it into the new one. We go back over every stretched area and every edge with a heat gun once the wrap looks done. The vehicle then sits in our bay before it returns to the road or goes through a wash. Cast film handles the stretching that recesses and rivet lines demand, so we use it on work vehicles. Lifted edges a few months down the road usually trace back to a skipped finishing pass.

Michigan Weather Exposes Every Shortcut In A Wrap

Adhesive won’t bond properly to a cold panel, so we schedule installs around panel temperature rather than around the calendar. Road salt collects along edges and seams all winter, which makes careful edge work the difference between a wrap that holds and one that peels. We prep and clean panels more aggressively in the cold months than most people expect. A wrap that comes through its first Michigan winter clean tends to keep going. Your route doesn’t pause for weather, so the install can’t be casual about it.

Wrap One Van Before You Commit The Whole Fleet

Nobody should take our word for how a wrap performs on a working vehicle. Put one van through a full season on your route, then look at the edges and the recesses yourself. Call Grand Rapids Sign Company at (616) 284-8739 and we’ll schedule that first vehicle. Our shop sits in Walker, and we handle fleet work for companies operating throughout Comstock Park.
