Things Just Got Good!

Mapco Express Inc’s “Things Just Got Good” tagline reminds us that just entering one of their stores will make you “feel better”. If you are looking for a yummy snack, filling up your tank or enjoying a cup of their delicious “Feel Good Coffee,” Mapco strives to make every guests’ day better than it was before they walked into the store. Over the past few years, we have been lucky enough to, amongst other projects, have the opportunity to design logo, wayfinding, and ADA compliant signs for this amazing company. So as you can imagine, we were thrilled to be given the chance to design a custom sign for the break area in their Franklin, Tennessee corporate office. They were looking for something that would follow along with their mission to make people “feel better” while also offering a warm and welcoming space for their employees and guests. We were happy to help! [caption id="attachment_1978" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Coffee bar before[/caption] First, we visited the headquarters to survey and measure the space we would be refreshing. As you can see, the area was not very welcoming or warm, and it definitely lacked that “feel better” vibe. Keeping with their company branding, Mapco supplied the original design layout, fonts, and wording. It was our responsibility to find the best material to construct and assemble the individual pieces of the dimensional sign. To fabricate the sign, we rounded the corners of a matte black acrylic panel and UV printed the text on to it with our flatbed printer. We then laser cut the name “Kris Ledlow” from white gloss acrylic that we attached to the acrylic panel. The shiny white lettering contrasted beautifully with the sign’s matte black background. Next, we had to construct the smaller, round icon panels. These were color printed onto white PVC. Then our laser cutter went to work cutting the outline of the icons from more white gloss acrylic. These icons were then adhered to the round panels and added to the dimensional look of the sign. To complete the project, we matched the look of the wood in the ceiling by using birch panels digitally printed with custom wood grain. This background piece added a touch of warmth to the sign which ties it in nicely with the company’s mission.   [caption id="attachment_1980" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Coffee bar after. Custom sign and professional installation.[/caption] After all of the fabrication work was complete, it was time for the professional installation. We first used bolts to attach the custom frame to the ceiling above the bar. Next, we secured the larger acrylic portion to the front of the frame and secured the birch panel to the back, leaving two inches between the two. Finally, we added the round icon pieces at different depths which really completed the look nicely. Viola! The completed, custom sign is now doing its part to help everyone who visits the coffee bar at Mapco Inc’s corporate headquarters “feel better”. If we can help create a custom sign for your company’s branded environment please give us a call! We serve all of Middle Tennessee, including Nashville, Franklin, Brentwood, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville, Spring Hill, and Clarksville. 12-Point SignWorks (615) 595-6564.
