Project: Cut vinyl graphics design
Location: Franklin, TN
We recently had the opportunity to work on an awesome custom graphics design for a local client!
She wanted to get a unique design for the back of her cream-colored MINI Cooper that truly stood out. She gave our graphic designer an example of something she kind of liked but that wasn’t exactly on the mark with what she wanted. The example was a picture of a cream MINI Cooper with a sort of retro tattoo design in a doodle-y cloud coming out from the back end of the car toward the front. She liked the sort of cloud of graphics look but wanted something a little more classy looking that balanced between looking girly and looking hardcore. Our graphic designers came up with a few options of swirling,
kaleidoscopic designs and our client picked the one she liked the best.
It would have been easy for us to print this design out on white vinyl and apply it to the vehicle in large pieces, but it would have looked like a wrap instead of an integral part of the vehicle. Our client wanted her graphics to look like they could have been factory made and applied by MINI themselves and digitally printing the design probably wouldn’t accomplish that. So, we created the swirling design and then fed the design into our di-cut machine. This machine is smart enough to cut out designs and shapes with exact precision. This meant that we had to carefully weed out the extra material to leave the delicate and thin parts of the design left. After that, our lead installer carefully applied the graphics using transfer taped pieces to keep the extremely thin pieces from tearing. It took a lot of concentration and precise measuring to keep the design perfectly mirrored.
In addition to the custom design on the back, we changed out the factory stripes on the front and changed them out for custom swirling stripes on the front.
The end result turned out great! The effort it took was well worth it. If you’re looking for your own unique vehicle graphics call 615-595-6564 or email Murray Johns at mjohns@12pointsignworks.com.
