Project: Vinyl cooler wrap
Location: Old Hickory, TN
Client: Sam’s At The Cove
Vinyl wraps can be a great solution for beautifying an interior or turning something unattractive into an awesome focal point. We did this for Sam’s at The Cove, a sports bar and grill located in Old Hickory, TN right on the Cumberland River. The restaurant is actually located in a marina with a nice, big open-air patio where diners can enjoy the beautiful waterfront views and watch the game at the same time. They approached us because they have a large cooler right in the center of their dining area that they thought was a real eyesore.
They wanted the cooler to look like a giant aquarium that held the types of freshwater fish you can actually find in the Cumberland river. One of the managers at Sam’s sent us an actual photograph someone had taken of a freshwater aquarium for our graphic designers to tinker with. One of our designers took the photo and edited out imperfections like reflections off the glass of the aquarium in the photo. He also did a little research on what kinds of fish are native to the Cumberland river and edited in a few bass, bluegill, and other breeds.
The cooler is partially outdoors because it’s located on the dining patio which has a roof by open walls. This means that the cooler is often exposed to moisture and indirect sunlight throughout the day. Because of this exposure to the elements, we chose to print the wrap on 3M IJ35 material with Oraguard Gloss laminate. 3M IJ35 vinyl is a permanent wrap vinyl that has been tested to withstand moisture well and Oraguard Gloss laminate is a UV laminate that protects against sun damage.
We printed and laminated the material and went to install the wrap in Old Hickory. Although it’s mostly flat, wrapping the cooler was still challenging because there is a lot of hardware they had to remove to make the wrap look seamless. The whole surface of the cooler is also slighted textured and pitted so it was a little more challenging than usual to get a smooth finish on the wrap. Our installers were able to get it up in a snap, though! Now what was once a nuisance to the restaurant owners is now a really unique work of art for their restaurant location.
