Recently the demand for custom printed wall coverings, or décor printing (as some call it), has increased due in part to the endless graphic possibilities to be used as custom interior signs and graphics in offices, homes, restaurants, and other establishments. People are turning to the concept of applying a graphic to the wall, rather than your traditional paint, or standard wall coverings. By combining textured printable materials, with proper graphic design, you can personalize your environment to suit your message, feel, or look. Hanging pictures is a timeless tradition, but printing artwork direct to a wall covering substrate, and in theory “wrapping” a wall is the ultimate form of customized wall covering expression. Brentwood, TN-based Grace Evangelistic Ministries contacted us recently to help create their new wall mural as a means of showing the reach of their ministry efforts across the globe. A vintage map graphic was created for a distressed, aged appearance, with a parchment-looking backdrop to add the aged effect. Printed on a parchment textured wallcovering substrate, we were able to capture the shades and colors of the graphic even better due to the dimensional aspects of the wall covering material. [caption id="attachment_262" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Lobby Wall Mural"][/caption] Given the wall width, we sectioned off the print into 3 pieces, printing them on our wide format printer and then covering them with a protective coating. This coating gives the mural the ability to be washed and makes it more durable for daily wear and tear. Once the panels were dry, we had them professionally installed using the appropriate adhesive, which, if chosen, will allow the mural to be removed without ruining the wall. The longevity of the graphic will last as long as standard wallpaper, but I feel it has much more of a visual impact. The final product is a visually stimulating, fun, unique piece, that is also functional. The staff will use the wall to put up push pins to show the reach and growth of their ministry efforts. This not only allows them to show the fruits of their labor in house, but to anyone coming in for visits, meetings, or related events. The wall covering material itself can come in many forms; smooth finish similar to that of a vinyl substrate, or various textured surfaces. Digitally printing on chosen surfaces, allows the customer to custom tailor the look, feel, and style of their wall mural. The last picture shows a smooth, matte finish wall graphic for a show room in a local car dealership. Using standard artwork provided by the dealership, we were able to translate their graphic to a larger size, and apply the vinyl to the wall, for a visually impactful message to incoming customers.
