Working as a real estate agent can be a rewarding, lucrative and flexible career for those who have the right skills, temperament and work ethic to succeed.

I am a business coach based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and I have had the privilege of working with individuals from businesses of all types, sizes and industries. One of my specialties is helping people hone their sales skills, and I am passionate about sharing these skills to help others reach their personal and professional goals.

Having worked with Realtors in the past, there are a few key traits I have noticed in the top producing agents, and ones who struggle. Real estate agents must be self-motivated, organized and personable. 

I love working with Realtors because of the freedom their job affords. There is no floor to your earnings, but no ceiling either. This high risk, high reward environment favors those who work hard, and if I have a client committed to hard work then I can help them figure out the other aspects of the business.

Even when agents are hard working and personable, there is still another level of success which can be unlocked through professional sales training.

So many agents today focus on relationships, paperwork and marketing themselves. Those are all very important aspects of the job, but at the end of the day it’s a sales position and having the right sales skills can be the difference between being able to write an offer and going home empty handed.

When I work with Realtors on sales skills, my main focus is always on their personal and professional goals. We determine the agent’s desired income level, their ultimate career goal and how they want their personal life to be impacted by their career before beginning any training. It’s important to determine your goals, and then take steps to reach them. 

When it comes to sales training for real estate agents, the goal is to differentiate you from your competition. I have worked with agents who, in the past, were only attending a listing to unlock the door and allow their clients to walk around.
