There are many valuable attributes a tree can provide you and your family with depending on what you really want. So, in this article Peer Landscaping of Fort Myers, FL will note the diverse types of trees what they can provide for your yard. At the same time, we will tell you which of our native Florida tree varieties provide which attributes.

Flowering Trees

In the Northern states springtime is heralded by the blooming of flowers and we all love flowering trees such as Japanese Cherry Trees and Dogwoods. Unfortunately, neither of these trees grow well in the 9, 10, 11 U.S.D.A. planting zone we live in here in Southwest Florida. Luckily, we do have plenty of flowering trees, some that bloom in the spring, and plenty that provide us with flowers all year long. Some of our favorite examples of this are Florida Gardenias, Magnolia trees, and Queen Crepe Myrtles (If you love of lilacs, then we suggest you consider the Queen Crepe Myrtle, as it is a great substitute since lilacs will not grow here.)

Shade Trees

When you live in Oregon allowing lots of sunlight on your home is fine, but here in Southwest Florida, our fierce sun fades exterior paint fast, and increases air conditioning use, making your energy bill soar. Trees can block out that summer sun and make your home and yard cooler, when properly placed. There are several native Floridian trees that provide a nice broad canopy such as Poincianas and Jacarandas. These beautiful shade trees not only provide nice shadiness, but they also burst with colorful flowers every year.

Privacy Trees

As a homeowner you want to feel safe and at ease in your outdoor space and trees that provide some privacy for your yard can do that for you. A privacy screen that does not take up too much space can be easily created by planting tall narrow trees either around the perimeter of your property or simply around your lanai cage. The Leyland Cypress is a gorgeous example of a tall thin type of tree that grows here in Florida. Low maintenance and fast growing, this variety of Cypress creates a lovely, lush privacy screen in just a few years. So, if you want to block out unwanted commotion from a noisy busy street, this evergreen conifer tree is perfect. It prefers full sunlight and grows well in zones 9 and 10.

Fruit Trees

Few things are more satisfying than eating healthy food you have grown yourself. Florida is famous for our many varieties of fruit bearing trees. From the diversity of citrus varieties that grow here to plantains, bananas, mangos and all the highly prized tropical fruits (like coconut) that are bountiful here. There are some vital facts you need to keep in mind when planting these trees. For example, some trees like bananas continually propagate themselves, so we need to plant them in an area of your property where you are prepared to have a banana grove. Mango trees fruit only once a year, but bountifully. You will need to be sure to harvest them properly or you will have a lot of fallen rotting fruit in your yard that will attract pests. Peer Landscaping of Fort Myers, FL can help you choose which fruit trees will thrive in your yard once you tell us what you are yearning for.
