Agave
If you want to dive right into Florida landscaping and like the way they look, Agave plants can be beautiful when integrated into a landscape design and they are resistant to drought, thrive in salty soil and come in a variety of types. These plants are very unique, and we do understand they aren’t for every style, but in time they produce beautiful flowers and their leaf type and color can vary based on the species. Yucca is a similarly-tough plant type, like Agave but with a short trunk. Either plant is a good, low maintenance choice.
Boxwoods
Boxwoods can thrive in South Florida’s climate and they are the ideal low maintenance plant because they grow relatively slowly. When selecting any low maintenance plant, a slow rate of growth is key because if it grows too quickly then trimming becomes an issue. We included boxwoods here because of their sturdiness and versatility, as they can be used in many different landscaping applications.
Palm Trees
An obvious but necessary inclusion to this list, palm trees are versatile, sturdy and low maintenance. While people immediately think of tall, thin trees, palms come in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, and you can find palms to act as accent trees, center pieces to a landscape design or to serve any number of yard functions.
