How Upper Cervical Care Can Help with Menstrual Problem

Dealing With Anxiety - Upper Cervical Chiropractic, Dr. Lee AngleOver the years, I’ve noticed patterns in my patients. Even though everyone walks in with their own story and symptoms, some issues pop up more than others — and one of the most common I see in women? Menstrual problems. We’re talking about everything from irregular cycles and heavy cramping to hormonal migraines, endometriosis, and even struggles with fertility or repeated miscarriages. A lot of young women who come into my office are already on birth control pills just to manage how disruptive their cycle is to their daily life. For many of them, their period isn’t just a few uncomfortable days — it’s a major life interruption every month. Now, let’s take a step back. Your body is constantly working to keep things balanced — things like blood pressure, hormone levels, digestion, temperature, and so much more. That balancing act is controlled by your autonomic nervous system — the system in your body that handles all the stuff you don’t have to think about. Like breathing. Or regulating hormones. This system has two sides — your “gas pedal” (fight or flight) and your “brake pedal” (rest and digest). The key is keeping both in balance. When it’s out of whack, your body struggles — and in women, that often shows up in the form of menstrual symptoms. Here’s where it gets interesting. At the very top of your neck is the brainstem, a vital part of your nervous system that connects your brain to your body. Just above it sits the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that controls hormones — including the ones involved in your monthly cycle. The hypothalamus relies on the brainstem for accurate input before it makes decisions. But if something’s off in the upper neck — say, one of those top bones is misaligned from a car accident, a fall, or even birth trauma — it can affect the brainstem. That misalignment might irritate the nerves or reduce blood flow, and that interference can mess with how the brainstem and hypothalamus talk to each other. I like to say, “garbage in, garbage out.” If the brainstem isn’t working right, the hypothalamus doesn’t get the right signals. That can cause your hormone levels and timing to go off — and there goes your cycle. The good news? We can help. I’ve had countless female patients come to me after trying everything else, and once we gently correct the alignment in their upper neck, their cycles start to regulate. Their cramps ease up. Their migraines go away. Their bodies start working the way they were designed to. Our adjustments are gentle — no twisting, no cracking. And the best part? We offer a free consultation to see if this could be part of what’s causing your symptoms. If your period is interrupting your life more than it should, let’s find out if your upper cervical spine could be the missing piece. Call Upper Cervical Chiropractic Health Centers of Fort Myers at 239-243-8810 to schedule your free consultation today. We’re here to help your body get back in balance — naturally.
