When The Bright Light is Too BrightI want to share something that might surprise you — and honestly, it surprised me too when I first saw it in action.

In my office, we focus on Upper Cervical Chiropractic, which deals specifically with the top bones in your neck. These tiny bones do a big job — they protect the brainstem and help your body and brain stay in sync. When they’re misaligned, it can affect all kinds of things, including how the brain processes information.

Now, I’ve always been very clinical in my approach. Every visit, we use tools like a thermal scanner, posture checks, and specific assessments to see if a person needs an adjustment that day. It’s not about how someone feels — it’s about what the body is saying.

But then I had two young patients — both boys, both diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD — who changed how I noticed things.

If I was in the back room and heard shouting, books flying, or what sounded like a pirate invasion happening in the waiting area, I pretty much knew — they were out of alignment. On days when they didn’t need an adjustment? Total calm. They’d walk in, grab a book, sit down, and read quietly. It was like night and day. And while I still checked them clinically every time, their behavior never seemed to steer me wrong.

What’s going on here?

Most people think of focus, learning, and behavior as purely brain issues. But the truth is, the brain relies on the body for input — especially movement and sensory input. Vision, hearing, touch, balance — all of that feeds into the brain. And one of the biggest sources of movement input? Your neck, particularly those top bones.

If that area is misaligned, the input gets scrambled. Think “garbage in, garbage out.” The brain gets faulty information, and suddenly it’s struggling to process the world clearly. That can look like hyperactivity, focus problems, or sensory overload — things we often associate with ADHD or autism.

One study out of Germany looked at x-rays from 1,000 kids and found that 80% had a misalignment in that upper neck area. They connected it to issues like ear infections, seizures, and yes — ADHD.

Now, I’m not saying every child with a neurodevelopmental diagnosis has a neck problem. But this is something we can check quickly — and without any cracking or twisting. The technique we use is extremely gentle and specific. If there is a misalignment, the goal is to correct it and let the body and brain start communicating the way they were designed to.

It takes about 30 minutes to find out if your child could benefit. No pressure, just real answers. If you’ve got questions or you’re curious whether this might help, I’d love to talk with you. — Dr. Lee Angle
