Fort Myers, FL - Occipital Neuralgia Condition? | Ask Our Local Chiropractor
Dr. Lee angle with upper cervical health centers. I want to talk to you today about occipital neuralgia. If you're somebody who's already dealing with it, you're quite familiar with that term. We've got a pair of nerves that run kind of from the upper part of the neck, up the back of the head, kind of around the ear a little bit. And then occipital neuralgia is one of those nerves are getting pressure put on them. They're shooting pain, sometimes one side the other side. And at times both sides, it's a condition I see in the office pretty frequently. And it's something we've had tremendous success with. So you can see here, we've got this nerve that runs up here kind of around the ear, hooks up around. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WkoISNSaN8[/embed] We've got another one there. We've got one on each side. Often what will happen in here is this very top bone in the neck that you can see here that sits right underneath the skull, the top bone in the spine, it gets misaligned, it rotates, or it drops backwards. It'll actually that nerve runs right over top of it. There's some muscle in there that muscle will get really tight and we really are just getting mechanical pressure right into that nerve. So you turn your head a little bit or you sleep in a bad position, whatever it is. And it jams into that nerve and boom, that searing shooting pain up through there. Some of the options are, are, you know, injections, a medication, sometimes a try physical therapy, or even in, in very severe cases, a surgery will be done in there, but it's something I've seen really great success with. We get that top bone. We figured out what's wrong with it. We get it freed up. We don't have that tight muscle anymore. We have good mechanics, so we're not making a move or doing something that jams into that nerve. We don't get the shooting pain anymore. Uh, and I've seen a tremendous amount of people get great relief. That's something you're dealing with. Uh, give us a call. We can do a free consultation to find out if that is what's causing your OA and your occipital neuralgia. And if so, then we'll go about getting it corrected, uh, to find you some relief.
If you have tried and failed numerous nerve blocks and/or pain medications for occipital neuralgia, Upper Cervical Care may be a consideration for you. Dr. Lee Angle explains that often with cases of occipital neuralgia, especially accompanied by other neck pain and neck cracking symptoms, is due to cervical instability. By normalizing the vertebral movement, the upper cervical vertebrae are not pressing or pinching on nerves. Feel free to email us your questions about your specific condition.
