Owner of Commercial Pool Supply meeting his new van wrap for the first time[/caption]
We met Eric Dunn of Commercial Pool Supply back in November of 2014. The company had just purchased a new Ford Transit from Future Ford of Concord, CA, and were excited about the possibility of wrapping it.
The company is family owned, and their plan was to use a picture of the whole family jumping into a pool. They had one that was taken in Cabo last year on their annual vacation trip. I was concerned that it wasn’t high resolution, but Eric assured me it would work. They had an ocean and desert background on the photo which needed to be removed. I first removed the desert, and photoshopped in a larger portion of ocean. Then after studying it, the client wanted to remove all of the ocean and replace it with only sky. Done. . . .Once the name of the company, web site, phone numbers, etc were in place, we sent the proof back to the client.
One problem with timing was that all the family members had to approve each step, so it slowed us down a bit. Sometimes, the committee way of doing things usually takes longer. When you are doing a similar project, I would recommend that one person is allowed to make the decisions, or that the multiple people involved are close enough and not too busy to check on progress. . .
After 3 months of going back and forth, we were almost ready! Then I got a phone call. The clients were so anxious to use the family picture, that they missed the fact that the family was dressed in street clothes and not bathing suits! I thought it was an added humorous feature, so hadn’t worried about it. . . but they didn’t want it.
I spoke to my client about the problem and located a clip art web site to suggest to them where the photos would be affordable and they would have a good variety to choose from. In a case where the client needs a photo, it is much more affordable for them to locate a photo that they agree on, than to have the designer looking for photos, sending them possibles, and charging by the hour to do so. After deciding on a photo, they need to procure the highest resolution, not just for the wrap, but for any future signage. You never know when you will find it again. We also redesigned their logo, which was dated, and not as professional looking as it could have been.
In the long run, they chose a wonderful photo, and the job is beautiful! Just standing close to their truck makes me feel refreshed!
