Mold Remediation Service Wondering how to get rid of the mold growth in your skin drain? Here’s everything that you need to do! Mold spores are everywhere around you and in your home, but they tend to stick to places and grow when the conditions are favorable. Your sink drain with its moist environment is the ideal place for mold to grow in. If you detect a musty odor near your sink or spot black slime in the drain, then you probably have mold growing in there. You must get rid of the growth before it spreads to other areas of your home. Here’s everything that you need to do to remove mold from your sink drain:Sink Use Water and Detergent Mold tends to accumulate in the drain tailpiece and on the undersides of the stopper and strainer. The ideal way to remove a small mold growth is to scrub it with water and detergent. To do that, remove the stopper and strainer so that you can access the tailpiece. Use dish soap and some water to scrub both the pieces. Then, pour some dish soap on a long bottle brush and put it inside the tailpiece to clean it vigorously. Use Baking Soda and Vinegar If you don’t want to go through the hassle of removing the strainer and stopper, then you can use other cleaning agents to get rid of the mold. A blend of baking soda and vinegar is a potent drain cleaner that will disinfect and deodorize your sink drain simultaneously. Simply pour ½ cup of baking soda down the drain and then follow suit with ½ cup of vinegar. Cover your drain for around 10 minutes to trap the foam that will build from the mixing of the chemicals. Add ½ cup of salt in a gallon of hot water and rinse the drainpipe with it to remove the mold growth completely. Keep Your Sink Drain Clean If you regularly treat your drain with the aforementioned chemical solution, then it will remain clean. For maintenance purposes, reduce the quantity of each ingredient by half. Alternatively, you can combine vinegar, borax, and hydrogen peroxide and pour it down the drain. Pour some water next to create a foamy mixture that will kill the mold growth. Baking soda alone is also effective at killing mold. Just sprinkle some baking soda down the drain and let it sit in the strainer, stopper, and pipe for about an hour or two. Then, use some hot water to clean the drain. Clean the Garbage Disposal Your garbage disposal is an inviting space for mold growth thanks to the continuous inflow of food waste that the mold can feed on. This is why you must clean your garbage disposal regularly as well. Just stop your sink, fill it with soapy water, and run the disposal while it drains. Alternatively, you can fill your disposal with ice, add 1 cup of kosher salt, and pour ½ cup of vinegar into the mix. Then, turn on the cold water and run the disposal until all the ice is gone. If the mold growth in your sink is extensive and you fear that the mold has spread to other areas of your home as well, then contact a mold remediation service right away.
