That being said, ADA compliance rules and regulations in LA County, CA, are different from those in other American states. So, with that in mind, listed below are a few rules and regulation business must follow for their signs to be ADA compliant!

Parking Sign Guidelines

According to California ADA law, a parking sign indicating a parking space must be denoted with the international accessibility symbol and mounted sixty inches above the ground. Such a rule is important because it ensures that the parking sign remains visible from afar, even when a car is parked in front of the sign itself.

Furthermore, your business parking space should also contain tow-away signs at every parking lot entrance or parking space. Moreover, your tow-away sign should also indicate that the vehicle will be towed away if parked inside a handicap parking zone. Finally, the tow-away should mention the phone number and address of the location the vehicle will be towed to.

Restroom Sign Guidelines

Under LA County, California, ADA guidelines, restroom signs should contain tactile text that indicates gender. The sign must also contain braille contractions just below the tactile text.

Images that indicate gender are optional. However, they are also commonly included in the restroom sign. It should also include the universal accessibility symbol as well.

For restroom signs denoting female-only restrooms, the sign must contain a twelve-inch circle with a ¼ inch thick border.

For restroom signs indicating men-only restrooms, the sign should contain an equilateral triangle with twelve-inch edges and a ¼ inch thick border.

For unisex restrooms, the sign should contain a circle with a twelve-inch diameter and an equilateral triangle with ¼ inch thick border inside the twelve-inch circle.

The chamfer of the edges of both the circle and equilateral triangle must not exceed 1/8 inches.

Lastly, unisex bathroom signs must also contain text that reads “Unisex Restroom,” “All-Gender Restroom,” or “Restroom.” This is especially the case for single-occupancy restrooms. Furthermore, there should also be a braille contraction that is an exact translation of the text above it.

If your business premises restroom signs don’t follow these guidelines, your sign will probably violate LA County ADA regulations and guidelines.
