ADA-compliant signs are mandatory for all spaces that are open to the public and designed for long-term use. Any space that is functional for more than 7 days is considered a long-term space.
Here are all the places that either require or exempt the ADA-compliant requirement for signs:
- You are not legally required to have ADA signs in places functional for less than 7 days.
- Parking lots don’t have ADA compliance requirements, except the ones with designated and accessible parking spaces.
- Places not open to the public and signs that display the name or address of a company outside are also exempted from this regulation.
- Signs representing non-essential information are also not required to be ADA-compliant.
- ADA-compliant signs are required to be installed for safety-related measures, such as fire exits, elevators, and stairways.
What is the correct way to install ADA signs?
If your company or office is coming under the ADA-compliance requirement, then you’ll also need to ensure that you install the signs correctly. If you need such signs urgently, then contact a local sign company right away. The ADA signs need to be installed as per the following guidelines:
- Install all ADA signs at least 48 inches in height, but make sure it doesn’t 60 inches from the ground.
