For the past 30 years, we have worked in the corporate world in the technology and telecommunications industries. After so many years in the working for others, we were finally ready to leave that world behind and strike out on our own. So, how did we make the leap to the sign industry? Earlier this year, we found an excellent coach in Alan Ginsberg of The Entrepreneur’s Source  who helped us to explore a variety of opportunities. We looked into several of them, and, after talking with Jack Werner of SignWorld decided that making signs would be a good choice for us, since, as we now see it, “everyone needs signs”. We also felt that with our backgrounds in customer service and project management, the fit would be a good one for us. We made the decision on June 10th, after attending a “Discovery Day” in California where we learned more about this industry. After three months of constant activities – getting established as a corporation, looking for the perfect location, training, finding the right sign-maker, getting our equipment in and set up – we officially opened our doors at the beginning of September. We also had a good time [caption id="attachment_84" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Our Production Area complete with work tables, printer and laminator"][/caption] decorating our showroom, trying to make it the largest sign showroom in Buford and the surrounding areas. Along the way, we wound up picking up a few jobs prior to our opening. One interesting thing that has happened to us since we began this journey is that we no longer look at signs the in same way as we did before beginning our adventure. You now might see us going up to a sign and feeling it and trying to figure out how it was made as well as what materials were used to produce it. We are amazed at the variety of signs and the materials used to produce them that are out there today. We now think of signs as applying digital graphics to anything from cars to windows to floors to walls in addition to one would traditionally think of as a sign. In fact, one of the fun things we did in this regard was to “wrap” the used refrigerator for our break-room to give it a brand new look. Now that we’ve been open for about a month, it is full speed ahead and we look forward to working with new customers and their exciting projects. Stay tuned as we describe some of our more interesting jobs.
