Indoor Signs for Restaurants in Orange County: Taps Fish House and Brewery

Taps Fish House & Brewery is an Orange County original. Combining only the freshest seafood with a brewery atmosphere and a chop house backdrop led to the creation of an eatery that brings in guests from around the nation. This successful restaurant is now opening another location in Tustin. Overseeing the custom decorating is Donna Kruse from Kruse Designs. Loyal readers of this blog will remember that we had previously collaborated with her on the remodel of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden venue.

Where Sophistication and Pizzazz Meet

This time around, Donna needed indoor signs for restaurants in Orange County. A curved wall soffit right above the dining area needed something other than artwork. We worked with her to realize the vision of adding lettering to draw in the guests. We manufactured seven-inch tall letters from ½-inch-thick PVC with beveled edges. Choosing dark beige as the color, these letters spell out a quote from Julia Child. It reads, “People who love to eat are always the best people.”

Spanning a 23-foot space, this quote is a wonderful tribute to the late culinary maven and at the same time offers the invitation to enjoy the company of likeminded folks. We used rolling scaffolding to install the lettering. Another project we took on is the installation of pin-mounted lettering above the charcuterie bar that spells out the term in capital letters. We omitted the beveling with these letters but used ¼-inch spacers that allow for the creation of a shadow effect. The backdrop is a dark brown board above the bar. The color combination creates an interesting counterpoint.
