Surviving NM's brutal cold without burst pipes

BY: ,
Starting at the beginning of November to the end of March is known as New Mexico’s coldest months; with temperatures dropping as low as Negative 22 degrees.  As homeowners in New Mexico we have to resource and find ways to ensure our homes are staying steadily warm; or else we could have a total disaster on our hands such as, the pipes in our homes freezing. More often than not it’s the older homes that see this time and time again… Newer homes are a little better off being that they have updated hardware and piping.   A few things that can be done to prevent frozen pipes, weather your home is new or old include the following. Making sure to maintain a temperature in the home no lower than 70 degrees. Keeping the under the sink cabinet doors open to keep warm air moving (even under there) keep a faucet dripping at night to keep the pipes lubricated and moist; not hard. Lastly be more cautious when it comes to using appliances like a hot water heater, washer, and dish washer. If your home does has a disaster occur, don’t hesitate to call on STOP Restoration for all your home remediation needs… 505-892-3112
