Local Business Coach Offers Management Training
Many companies assume people who are technically proficient at their jobs, produce great results in an operational role and/or have a skill set necessary to master their workload can automatically oversee others who will perform a similar role. This is the basis behind many internal promotions, and the logic is sound.
However, if a company promotes someone to a management role who has never overseen other people and does not train them properly on the nuances of being a manager then they are setting this person up for failure. In this scenario, if the new manager does perform poorly or become discouraged in their new role, you not only risk them causing their department to struggle, you risk losing a talented person over a lack of training.
As a business coach serving Massachusetts and New Hampshire, I have worked with companies of different industries, sizes and structures to help them reach their goals. My services are tailored to meet the needs of my clients, and while I can help a business in many ways, providing management training adds a great deal of value for many of the companies I work with.
Management training involves the mastery of several skills, and below I will detail a few areas I emphasize with my trainees. Hopefully this will give you a better idea of how the training process works and how I can help managers in your company thrive.
Leadership
It’s possible for anyone to be an effective leader if they have the desire to lead others and can build on a few essential skills. Leaders must be great communicators, relaying clear responsibilities and expectations to the members of their team and also helping them understand where they fit in the company vision. We also build on the skills of delegation and motivating a team when discussing leadership, with the idea of ensuring leaders can effectively oversee their teams and keep them moving in the right direction.
Time Management
In a management role, a person must make time to ensure their team members feel supported while also ensuring they have enough time to accomplish their own tasks and keep the entire department on task. Effective time management involves selecting the right tasks to prioritize, using your available resources to automate and effectively schedule where possible and also incorporates more of the delegation we discuss in the leadership section.
Conflict Resolution
Managers must be trained in the nuances of managing other people, and this includes being the voice of reason and authority when issues arise among team members. In almost any workplace, there will be conflict of some kind and the manager must know how to calmly de-escalate a situation and then get everyone on the same page in its aftermath. Our training covers how to foster a team-first environment and what to do when disagreements do happen.
