Tampa, Florida Schools’ New Indoor and Outdoor Signs

BY: Your Name, Your Business

Wharton High School of Tampa decided their campus could use some signs, so they came to Premier Signs of Tampa. As with large companies that have expansive buildings and grounds, the “how big?” and “how many?” questions had to be answered first. With Premier Signs help, the creative process began and the signs were chosen.

Because each location had its own set of needs and restrictions, multiple sign mediums were used.  Unique wall signs, painted murals, framed printed banners, aluminum graphics, and acrylic and vinyl letters were designed. The results were beautiful custom signs made up of many sizes, colors and materials, specifically made for each different outdoor space. Next came time for the all important installation.

Acrylic letters naming the offices or school common areas were placed above several key entrances. They were installed by drilling into the exterior walls, screwing pegs into each letter and then inserting the letters into the wall holes. When entrances had window transoms above them, instead of concrete walls, names out of white vinyl letters were applied directly to the glass. The acrylic and vinyl letter choices were the perfect solution for each particular entrance and added a touch of color to the otherwise monochromatic exterior. The marking of these entrances was in the hope of eliminating much of the  confusion for students, parents and visitors looking for a particular office.

A tall ladder and rolling scaffold were all that was necessary for these jobs as well as the painted mural, because of their reasonable distance from the ground. However, when hanging higher wall installations larger equipment was necessary. A mechanical lift was employed for the framed posters that were to flank the outdoor elevator. These would be positioned 25′ above the courtyard. Each poster displays a full color depiction of the Wharton Wildcat and are set in snap-in frames. These frames allow school officials the unique opportunity to change out the posters for special school events throughout the year.

Across the courtyard, a large colorful, animated depiction of the Wildcat was also placed high off the ground. Once again the lift was used when this aluminum backed graphic, gently pressed into the rough wall surface to adhere to the wall. The same sign material and installation (without the lift) was used for the outdoor stair graphic containing the Wharton logo. This aluminum backed material is malleable, lightweight, and durable, but also removeable. It is a perfect cost effective alternative for large, rough to semi-smooth spaces.

Wharton High School is back to business with a new attitude. Next on their agenda is continuing their custom signage for their lobby and other indoor spaces.
