Construction sites need safety signage more than any other business location since it is such a high-risk industry. Around 10 % of America’s major injuries are from construction, and around 20 % of fatalities are from construction.

With these statistics, OSHA has developed construction site signage regulations.  These regulations offer safer conditions to workers by using specific codes, colors, or words. These include the following:

  • Words such as Caution or Danger
  • Bright colors like red, orange, or yellow
  • Placement of the sign

OSHA has divided construction signage into three classifications:

Danger signs:  These signs signal construction workers to the most serious risks. These signs feature the word “Danger, “in white letters on a red background, followed by an exclamation point.  For example, you may see a sign, which reads, “Danger! Construction Area . Keep Out.

Warning signs: Warning signs notify people of threats that could cause harm, but aren’t significant enough to warrant a danger sign.  These signs always include a safety alert triangle and are printed on an orange background in black ink. Some examples include “Warning! Hazardous voltage. Keep out.

Caution signs:  Caution signs warn others of unsafe practices.  If you avoid these risks, you may avoid getting injured.  Caution signage involves black lettering on a yellow background with the word caution. Some common caution signs include,” Caution! Wet floor.” If workers see a slippery area, they won’t fall.

Types of Safety Signs Admittance Signs: These signs signal that “Employees only,” may enter, due to a dangerous and restricted area. Fire Protection Signs:   These signs point to where an electrical fire could start, due to a high power supply. Other signs are posted where the nearest fire extinguisher is located. General Safety Instructions:  These signs offer information, relating to medical equipment and first aid. For example, “Wear protective equipment onsite.” Another sign may direct you to first aid. Road Construction Warning Signs In addition to construction site signs, Be Bold Signs also offers temporary warning road construction signs.  These signs include options, such as “Road Work Ahead,” or “Men Working.” These signs warn drivers ahead of time so they do not cause an accident. Do you need a temporary safety sign for a construction site? Be Bold Signs can create a sign for you so that meets safety regulations. We offer a large array of materials and styles to ensure we meet your needs.  Contact us today at 571-441-2800 to discuss your safety signs.
