Hillyard was established as a booming railroad town in 1892. What is now North Market Street actually used to be the main wagon trail traveling north. Now nearing it's 120th year, Historic Hillyard is part of an ongoing neighborhood renewal project, and Signs for Success has been proud to be a part of this community project.
The Fire & Rail Museum houses many original artifacts including several rail cars. Old blueprints and period photographs have been blown up into Large Posters, and a new Panel Sign now stands in front of the museum.
At the corner just outside the museum, the Hillyard Heritage Museum Hobo Weather Station features Hanging Signs with weather directives: "If this sign is: Moving - It's Windy; Wet - It's Raining, White - It's Snowing," and so on. Signs for Success is the proud producer of the hobo mounted to the sign post.
Hillyard Florist replaced a large Outdoor Sign, and Vinyl Vehicle Graphics complement the sign as well as help the florist shop gain recognition outside of Hillyard.
"Ten years ago when we started our business in this area, we didn't really understand Spokane, or why non-Hillyard people looked at us like we were crazy," Signs for Success owner John Bogensberger said. "Back then, Hillyard had such a bad reputation. But as we've gotten to know the people and understand what's going on, we're proud to be in Hillyard."
Hanging across the main street downtown is a colorful Mesh Banner announcing an upcoming event. Pole Banners for each season hang from light posts and mark the historic district.
If you're lucky when driving through, you might see the miniature Hillyard Tire Box Truck out on the corner, complete with Box Truck Decals.
The Northeast Youth Center is an important part of Hillyard. It was founded in 1971 to "provide at-risk youth with culturally enriching educational and recreational opportunities that build self-esteem and teach basic life skills." Signs for Success has supplied or created Banners, Promotional Items, an MDO Wood Sign, Aluminum Parking Signs, and more.
Then there's Barbary Coast's new Outdoor Hanging Sign with Scroll Bracket; Renegade Classics' Outdoor Signage; the Antique Mall's Outdoor Signs, Indoor and Outdoor Hanging Signs, A-Frame Signs, and Wall Signs; the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council's Outdoor Wall Signs, and so many others. Each individual business and organization is an important aspect of Hillyard today. "We support redevelopment and we're happy to see that it is developing in such a positive fashion," John said.
