Custom LED Logo Signs | Product Review

When starting a new business you want to stand out. There are many things to consider for developing and building your location and storefront. One of the decisions you will need to make is what type of sign to use to display your company name and logo.

The owner of Domino’s in Bloomfield, CT reached out to us to create a pair of signs for his new location that occupies the corner space within the building.  While planning for his sign we completed a site visit to determine what accommodations we needed to make to ensure that his project could be completed.

Planning is Always the First Step

There are always things to consider while planning a new sign, even if the sign seems straightforward to the client. This location in particular had a foam stucco finish for the building facade.  This can be a simple and cost effective method for creating a uniform look to the building. Unfortunately, a foam stucco finish is not capable of supporting weight on it’s own. To remedy this, a backer board is used to spread the load of the sign and give the mounting hardware a solid surface to adhere to.

In this particular location, the forward facing sign had an existing backer board, but the logo sign on the side of the building did not. As part of the installation we added the backer board to the area behind the second sign. This was a necessary step to ensure that the sign was properly mounted and secure.

Lighting the Way

The great thing about channel letters of this nature is the ability to light them to be easily viewed at night. Channel letters have an advantage over Light Box Signs – they naturally have high contrast because only the letters are illuminated. This helps in regards to viability at a distance, and delivers a clean look that many clients prefer. Some applications require the use of a raceway behind the letters. This raceway houses the power supplies and carries the wiring to the individual letters. A raceway can be used to minimize the complexity of the installation process, but is sometimes necessary if there is no access behind the letters to allow for running wires and making connections inside the building facade.
