Monument Signs…Options Abound! We get many requests  for outdoor monument signs every year, and there are dozens of construction materials from which to choose:  wood, metal, plastic, stone, brick, etc.  As an alternative, we often recommend FOAM, and our clients are both initially surprised and eventually grateful that we did.  In the sign industry, foam is a construction platform that has become more and more common over the last decade.  Just to clarify, when we say foam we’re referring to HDU (High Density Urethane).  Why is HDU often the material of choice?  Well for starters, it’s more economical than actual masonry (brick, stone, stucco, etc.) but can be manufactured to provide a “faux-masonry” look. As well, HDU is highly-durable.  Few signs can withstand being hit by a car (and we’ve replace a few that have!), but take a hammer or crowbar to wood, metal or plastic and those materials will dent, chip or break. Even masonry is susceptible to moisture over time and can develop cracks. HDU resists moisture, dents and breaks and, furthermore, will not fade, peal or rust like more traditional materials. Finally, HDU can be used in tandem with other materials resulting in the final sign product.  It can even be used with electronic message boards.
