It’s that time again! The Phoenix AM returns! Cowtown Skateboards’ annual amateur skate competition, PHXAM turned the big 21 this year, and you know that milestone brought in the right to make this year a party on wheels!
The weekend shenanigans started at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, and Sunday, March 26. Spectators poured through the gates to witness the 200 talented, industry-sponsored, amateur skaters from around the world (Including our very own local Matty Jessee taking 5th Place!) crushing for cash prizes and cheers from the on looking crowd. Tent City gave the spectators a chance to grab some free swag, a new board, tasty treat or cool beverage. On Saturday night after a day shredding in the hot desert sun, it’s time to let loose with the PHXAM’s annual after-party.
The podium will take home trophies, and a little extra cash for those empty pockets. The “heaviest ripping guy” and “hardest hitting girl” will roll away with $5,000 each. Second-place winners grab $3,000, and $1,000 a piece for third place. Not bad for a weekend of skating! The event isn’t only about the possible prize winnings, but the chance for exposure is what draws these young talents to the desert. Sponsors like Vans, Thrasher Magazine, the numerous companies and vendors in the Tent City looking to build their brands, and of course the brand synonymous with putting on the Best “Best Trick” contests, Independent 
Trick Co, these skaters have their chance to catch the eye of potential big time sponsors.
