Tampa Am is an amateur skate contest recognized all over the world. The top 12 skaters from each Damn Am automatically qualify into the Tampa Am Saturday Qualifier, meaning they will already be in the top 100 skaters at Tampa Am. There is a two-tiered Qualification system. On Friday Open Qualifier: Open to select skaters without a top 12 finish in a 2021 Damn Am. Saturday Tampa Am Qualifier: Open to premier amateurs and skaters with a top 12 finish in a 2021 Damn Am.
The first Tampa Am to attract skaters from all around the country was held in 1996, three years after SPoT opened its doors. Donny Barley set the tone for the future of the contest by winning it and going on to a legendary pro career. The contest’s success was not only due to the high level of skating, but the good times that Ybor City still provides today. The event continues to grow and is now the de facto Amateur World Championships, attracting 200+ skaters each year from around the world. Besides the interest from throngs of amateur skaters, the contest is followed by the entire industry. Tampa Am has been a launch pad to the pros for skaters like Luan Olivera, Felipe Gustavo, and Nyjah Huston. The event is webcast live on ETNLive.com, offering everyone a taste of the Tampa Am experience. -SpotTampa
This was the 27th consecutive year, and once again, did not disappoint! The event was packed, as usual, and the skating was superb! With parties and mini events surrounding the actual contest, the whole weekend was a splurge of excess and excitement. The winning run was arguably better than the winning pro run in Oct! the top 3 skaters were undeniable and the win was well deserved by Yukito Aoki with Richard Tury and Jhancarlos Gonzalez not far behind. These are names we will see in the future pro ranks. Congrats guys!!
