It’s been two months since The Berrics revealed the bracket for BATB 12 and DOUBLED the skaters to 64. They said it couldn’t be done… and they weren’t totally wrong: Due to scheduling conflicts, a pandemic, and other circumstances beyond their control, they needed to slightly tweak the Round 1 rollout and swap out a few skaters. Co-founder Steve Berra explained that they are pushing forward even though the plan didn’t turn out as it would.
The 48-year-old professional skateboarder admits he never figured out how to stop the revisions on all “Battle At The Berrics” competition history. Having made 12 games of S.K.A.T.E contests,
Berra and his team quickly adapted the turn of events as they handled those consecutively for many years. Berra also explained that everyone who participates in Battle At The Berrics does it for the love of the game – no one gets paid unless they make it to the top. There’s no vexation if a contestant drops out.
“We don’t take offense to anyone dropping out at all. We kind of throwing names out there, hoping that they’ll participate, but if they don’t. No harm, no foul, it doesn’t hurt our feelings, and hopefully, it doesn’t hurt theirs.” Berra said. So it’s understandable that other obligations take a higher a priority.
