It’s that time of year again!! Where tinsel hangs, eggnog flows and the gnarliest dude gets named Skate of the Year!
The title of “Skater of the Year” is awarded annually by Thrasher magazine. The tradition was started in 1990, and the accolade remains one of the most respected awards in global skateboarding culture. The title is bestowed to one skater annually and announced by Thrasher’s editor. Chris Cole and Danny Way are the only double recipients. Milton Martinez was nominated for and won Skater of the Year for 2019. There are a few standouts among the standouts and a few fan favorites this year and we have our eyes a couple select candidates.
“It’s our Academy Award. Especially because it’s recognized as the be all end all. And other people try to do it and it means something for sure. It means something to be on The Berrics Populist and it means something to be Transworld’s Street Skater of the Year and all that stuff, but Thrasher’s Skater of the Year was the first. And it’s the one.” says two-time SOTY Chris Cole in an interview with Jenkem Mag.
Voting starts Friday Dec 11th and we are looking forward to congratulating the Skater of the Year for 2020 very soon!!
