San Leandro, CA – Skate Industry News: Will This Be The New Normal For Skateboar…

For a weekend usually filled with family gatherings and social outings, things will look a little different this year.

For the weekend of April 12, parking lots will be closed at Coyote Hills, Garin and Black Diamond Mines, as well as the main parking lot at Lake Chabot and the Stanford Avenue parking lot at Mission Peak.

The district announced a new round of closures effective March 27. They will remain in place through at least April 30.

  • Sunol Regional Wilderness, Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area, Point Isabel, Little Hills Picnic Ranch
  • All visitor centers including Tilden Botanic Garden, Ardenwood Historic Farm,  Black Diamond mine and centers.
  • Piedmont Stables, Chabot Equestrian Center, Skyline Stables. Owners allowed in to care for boarded horses.
  • All other buildings and reservable indoor spaces
  • Restrooms and water fountains
  • Campsites (including backcountry) and picnic areas.
  • Playgrounds and sports fields, including all of Castle Rock Recreation Area
  • Swimming facilities
  • Limited access at the following parks– some parking areas and entrances closed. Check the district’s website for details.
Anthony Chabot, Black Diamond Mines, Briones, Contra Loma, Coyote Hills, Crown Beach, Del Valle, Diablo Foothills, Lake Temescal, Leona Canyon, MLK Shoreline, Reinhardt Redwood, Roberts, Shadow Cliffs, Sibley Volcanic, Temescal, Tilden, Wildcat Canyon

Is this the new normal for skateboarders??

Are we looking at a world that reverts us to the generation with no place to skate? The generation that had to build launch ramps, wax curbs, and find anything that resembled transition? It’s looking like it. Skateparks all over California are being shut down, locked up, and even filled in to prevent skateboarding. How long will this last?

During this pandemic, while we find ourselves at home and practicing our flat ground tricks, don’t forget to build yourself a launch ramp, a ledge, or get your hands on a flat bar, even embark on a mini ramp build… Just keep skating! It looks like our parks will be closed for sometime, and even once reopened, the skateparks will probably be low on the list of priority spaces to be cleaned. Keep your skating and building skills sharp! We hope to see each other real soon!!
