Nyjah Huston was the overall SLS champion in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2017, and 2019. He is also the highest paid skateboarder in the world, and as of May 19, 2013, Huston has won more prize money than any other skateboarder in history.
All of these accomplishments, and he has only achieved victory at the highly esteemed Tampa Pro once. Until this year!
Putting together a flawless run filled with big tricks and technical bangers, Huston put on a show in typical Nyjah style. Ending his run with two back to back jaw droppers! Gapping to Kickflip back lip on the big section and then directly sliding into a big spin front board across and down the smaller section sending the crowd into a hype frenzy of mayhem.
The combination of style, level of tricks, and overall usage of the course there was no way to deny a first place run for the super star.
Closely behind Huston, a group of legendary status pros were battling for the spots under the king. Shane O’Neill, Ishod Wair, Mason Silva, Luan Oliveira, Manny Santiago…. Just to name a few. Needless to say, this was not a walk in the park for Huston.
Not only did he retain laser focus and perfectly execute his contest run, but Huston continued to keep the crowd hype up during the Independent Best Trick Contest. Throwing down a hammer that only the mighty Thor might be able to wield. Gapping to kick flip backside tail slide big spin out on the rail section. (Insert Head explosion) Of course in typical Nyjah Huston style the trick looked mechanical and almost underwhelming it was so clinical and clean. Maybe he does this trick on a daily? Maybe not. This trick is so crazy and mind melting it sent the crowd into a weekend long cheering trance.
