San Leandro, CA - How to Maximize Space in a Small Bathroom | Remodeling News

SYNOPSIS: Don't let limited bathroom space hold you back from the bathroom of your dreams. We'll teach you how to transform a small bathroom to the best of your ability with these remodeling tips and tricks.

Making the Most Out of a Small Bathroom Space

BY: ,
While your bathroom isn’t the main room in the house, it’s still an important part of your home. You deserve a bathroom space that is considered spacious enough for comfort and offers the right layout for convenience purposes. But when you have very limited space, making your bathroom work the way you want it to can be a pain. To maximize the space you do have, we recommend following the advice below. This way, you can fall in love with your bathroom all over again. Use a Large Mirror to Create an Illusion of More Space A mirror, with its ability to reflect, gives the impression there’s more to a space than there really is. Plus, it doubles up as a way to view yourself to engage in personal hygiene and styling activities: doing your hair or makeup, brushing your teeth, or making sure your outfit is properly coordinated. In especially small bathrooms, you may even consider a corner-to-corner wall mirror to add an illusion of as much space as possible. Avoid Using Too Many Dark Colors The darker the colors you use in your bathroom’s interior design, the smaller it will look. This doesn’t mean you can’t use dark colors in your design at all. It simply means you should aim for lighter colors, keeping a healthy balance of both. Apart from mainly selecting brighter colors, try to pick options that are glossy. Consider gloss or semi-gloss paint, a vanity with a glossy finish, and tiles with a shiny or reflective nature. This can give the impression that your space is bigger. Matter, heavily textured, or highly patterned options, on the other hand, can make a space look smaller. Go for Smaller Fixtures When you have an awkward layout or generally tight space in your bathroom, smaller fixtures are sometimes necessary. Consider a compact vanity, corner shower, wall-mounted or pedestal sink, wall-mounted storage solutions, short-spouted faucets, a narrow mirror with hidden storage, or even a toilet installed directly to the wall. Consider a Frameless Shower Out of everything in your bathroom, one of the items taking up the most space is your bathtub or shower. One option to make your tiny bathroom look larger and less restricted is by opting for a frameless shower or shower-bath combo. Without a frame, your bathroom will have greater depth. Your shower alone will feel less closed off without a frame and door creating strict boundaries, which can be especially ideal for smaller showers. Add Plenty of Lighting Darkness only makes a bathroom look tinier and more closed in. With ample lighting, the space looks light, airy, and even bigger. Don’t just focus on adding artificial lighting from overhead lighting to ambient lighting. Also, consider bringing in more natural light, if possible. Consider adding or extending an existing window, adding a skylight, allowing light to flow throughout your space with the use of glass in your design, and utilizing light-reflective surfaces. Getting the most out of a tiny bathroom isn’t as easy as it might seem. This is especially true if your entire layout needs to be reworked. At Build BLVD, we can help you amplify your space without missing a beat. Call us today for a consultation.
