There is a lot of talk about why you should get your car wrapped, how to get your car wrapped and what you can expect from a great car wrap, but one thing that is often left out of the conversation is what happens when you are ready to remove your car wrap? We wanted to take some time to walk through the process of how to restore your vehicle back to its original look.
One of the great qualities of having your vehicle wrapped is the ability for you to remove the vinyl quickly and inexpensively and restore your vehicle to its original color. The wrap vinyl requires no special materials to remove; it is essentially a big sticker and can be pulled off in much the same way as a sticker. Prior to removal, it is important to heat the vinyl to help loosen up the adhesive. This can be done by leaving you car in the sunlight for a couple of hours or using a hairdryer to warm up individual panels. If you used a high-quality vinyl, such as 3M or Avery, you should have no problem with leftover adhesive remaining on your car. However, we cannot guarantee this with all vinyl brands and that’s one reason why we recommend choosing the best possible vinyl for the initial installation.
When you are removing the vinyl, be sure to provide a consistent tension and avoid pulling the vinyl off too quickly. Pulling to quickly without the right amount of uniform tension can lead to the vinyl tearing off in small strips or leaving an adhesive residue behind. Also, the angle at which the vinyl is pulled off is important. Try to keep the vinyl at a 20-degree angle while you are applying tension in order to get the best and quickest results.
If there is any adhesive residue left behind after you are finished removing the wrap vinyl, don’t worry. You can use either alcohol or orange peel extract and a paper towel to remove the residue. Try to soak the residue in the alcohol or orange peel and let it set for a moment before rubbing it off with the paper towel.
