Avoiding Costly Water Damage Due To Hose Bursts. Portland, Salem, Tigard OR

Posted in: Industry News

Oregon’s unseasonably mild and dry winter has left our homes in better shape than in some winters past.  Low rain fall and little freezing means major issues have been kept to a minimum.  As we head into spring let’s keep that trend going with just a few easy tips.

Pipes and hose leaks can equate to major water damage and costly home repairs.  An important step in home maintenance is to check hoses and connections on your washing machine, dishwasher, sink, and the ice maker on your fridge at least once a year.  It is estimated that 50% of all property damage claims are from water damage directly caused by failing pipes, plumbing fixtures, and appliance hoses.

If your water feed lines are connected with rubber hose, regularly check that the connections are tight and not leaking and consider changing them out for more durable braided steel supply lines.  Rubber hoses are under constant water pressure, causing them to be prone to hose leaks or even bursting.  It is also a good idea to locate and shut off the water valves to your toilets and washing machine when on vacation as an extra precaution.  Many water losses occur while the homeowners are away and water flows unchecked until they return  Water damage of this magnitude can constitute repairs in excess of $20,000!  Be a proactive homeowner and it may save you precious time and frustration.

Over time leaks not only cause water damage they often cause a mold problem too. Routinely inspecting your appliance and plumbing hoses significantly reduces your chances for water damage in your home.
