Curbing Bad Business Habits for Continued Growth

One of the top motivators for pursuing entrepreneurship is achieving a work/life balance. However, managing areas of your personal and professional life can become complex. Undoubtedly, you will become distracted from some of your obligations, plans, or responsibilities.

Developing Bad Habits

I am not immune to falling into bad habits. This summer, in between moving to a new home and spending time on personal projects, I’ve slowed down on networking, tracking my numbers, and business development meetings. These are business practices I’ve honed to cultivate my success – but getting wrapped up in personal events in my life put them in the backseat.

I sacrificed my business focus to dedicate more time and effort to my personal life. As the summer ended, I strategized rebuilding my business focus and schedule. With the kids returning to school, I used the opportunity to have more time to reestablish focus on further developing my business.

Assess Where You Are

As a business coach, one of my most valuable suggestions for clients is to step back and honestly assess your current position. Achieving clarity about where you are now and strategizing your next move are critical to leading a sustainable career. Schedule a day to identify where you are and review your actions. Learn from what is and is not working.

In my coaching practice, I use an assessment called Diamond Mapping, where my clients rate these areas of life on a graph. They create a visual representation of their current life progress. A diamond shape indicates a well-balanced life. This assessment is an efficient way of determining what areas of your life you have lost focus on achieving goals so you can begin to pursue improvement.

Finding Balance

To be as productive as possible in your business, the other areas of your life need management: your relationships, financial circumstances, health, and career are interconnected. These areas all affect your quality of life. This past summer, I spent valuable time with my family. Now I am back to focusing on business development without distractions.

Make Your Progress Time-Bound

Many parents share the same opportunity to work on the critical tasks they have put off or good habits they may have put on hold as children return to school. I assigned a day on the week my children returned to school to improve my business development focus.

No matter your situation or circumstances, you need an opportunity to create a schedule to work on those goals and productive habits you’ve set for yourself. Making your progress time-bound holds you accountable for your success.

Are you an entrepreneur or an aspiring entrepreneur who needs guidance in reestablishing good business habits? You can book a consultation with me today for assistance.
