A customer recently asked us if it was possible to have security window film and solar control window tinting film installed on the same windows.
So, I thought I would take a few minutes to answer their question.
Window tinting film is installed when you want to control the sun and the heat coming into a room or vehicle.
Security films are for when you want to strengthen the glass to make it hard for people or objects to break through the window.
When someone asks if they should have window film installed, both types of window films should be considered.
And which films you need depends upon where the windows are located.
For instance, windows on lower levels are more commonly broken into by thieves and intruders, so it makes sense to install security window film on windows that are on the ground floor or easily accessible without a ladder.
However, if you live in an area where storms and hurricanes are common, you may want to have security window film installed on all of your windows. High winds can throw objects through the air at incredible rates, causing extensive damage to buildings, objects, and humans and animals.
When it comes to sun control, window tinting film can help to keep a room cooler, so it may make sense to install window films on all the windows within a room where excessive heating is an issue.
If the room does not have direct sunlight coming in though, and there aren’t any heating issues, you may not need to install window tinting film. Direct sunlight can cause fading to furniture and interiors, and also can potentially cause skin damage and cancer in humans. So, if you do have a sitting or reading room where you get a lot of direct sunlight, you may want to consider window tinting.
