Why Businesses in Georgia Need ADA Signs   Business isn’t easy in a state like Georgia. There’s lots of competition and lots of businesses, people, and things to attract potential customer’s eyeballs. You need to get people to pay attention to your business. One good way to do that is with a sign. But with everything you have to think about when running a business, it’s a mini-miracle if you remember to pay enough attention to your signage at all, let alone your ADA signs.   ADA signs ADA stands for “Americans with Disabilities Act”. This was a bill that was passed by the United States Congress and signed into law in 1990. It prohibits discrimination of anybody based on their disability. The ADA has had wide-ranging implications and has inspired a subsequent federal law as well as state and municipal laws all over America. Including right here in Georgia. One implication the ADA has had is on signage.   The disabilities at issue with ADA signs are visual disabilities. Certain businesses are required by law to have certain signs that everybody can see. This means the signs and font on the signs need to be large enough to be seen by people with poor eyesight. It means they must placed at proper heights with good sightlines. It means that certain fonts and color schemes have to be avoided because they might make the text hard to read. It also means braille signage. Braille is a form of alphabet that uses raised bumps so that even people with no vision can read with their fingers.   The visually impaired in Georgia If your signage is not in compliance with ADA regulations to could receive heavy fines. These fines can badly affect your business. But it’s not just the fines that you should be worried about. The National Institutes of Health estimate that over one million Americans are legally blind and other estimates put the number of visually impaired people in America between three and four million. Closer to home, the National Federation of the Blind estimates that there are over 267,000 people in Georgia who live with a visual impairment of some kind. Think about these numbers. There are bound to be more than a few blind or visually impaired people living in Johns Creek, Duluth, Norcross, or wherever in Georgia that your business or organization is located.   The visually impaired need to find their way around the world just like anybody else. And this includes your business or establishment. If your business is not equipped with ADA signs, then you can’t properly serve your customers. And if you can’t do that, you won’t receive their business.   Peachtree Signs & Graphics If you want to know about the ADA regulations that might apply to your Georgia business or if you’re looking for effective, durable, and professionally made ADA signs, please get in touch with us at Peachtree Signs & Graphics.
