We were recently contact by Brook Haven Townhomes to refurbish their monument sign for good reason. Not sure where Brook Haven is? You might drive by it every day, but you’d never know!
Brook Haven is conveniently located in Merriam, KS; just a few minutes from I-35 and Johnson Drive. If you are in the market to relocate, they will not disappoint. After all, wouldn’t you like to be able to park right in front of your 3-story home? Wouldn’t you love the unbelievable price, the great amenities – pool, grounds keeping, fireplace, etc.? How have you missed this place? Why isn’t Brook Haven your home already?
Well, the answer to these questions is simple. The management at Brook Haven Townhomes solved this riddle for us all!
They used to have a beautiful monument sign; painted and carved out of a thick slab of wood. It was installed in between two massive hand built masonry pillars. As the years passed, the stonework stayed intact. However, nature had taken a toll on the wood and it started to decompose. The name was almost illegible.

When we were contacted by Brook Haven, we were thankful to be given the opportunity to bring life back to their Monument Sign.
The old saying “If it’s not broken don’t fix it!” applied to the stone work in this project. However, being able to install a new sign within existing mason work was a challenge. Also, to replace a wooden panel that has custom areas of relief by either an engraver or CNC Router can be costly. Fortunately for Brook Haven, they had come to the professionals! Thinking “out of the box” is something Forerunner Signs and Graphics does best!
We started out with a little demolition work by removing the old sign and preparing the areas in the stone for a few lengths of 4×4 treated cedar. We then mounted the lumber directly into the stone columns with mortar mix, just like the previous sign. Next, we mounted hidden fasteners to the cedar frame in place for the new sign face.
For the design; we chose High Resolution imagery of wood grain and placed their name with similar fonts to keep the feel of the retired sign. The quality is so good you would think that the wood is real!
We printed the new design on our HP latex 360 with IJ35c and paired the vinyl with beautiful protective overlaminate. We then applied HD Max Metal, which is Durable, Effective, and Affordable! With these elements, the new monument sign is guaranteed to withstand natures elements for years to come!
