When we were approached by Prairie Center Elementary School in Olathe, KS, we jumped at the chance to manufacture and install their monument sign. To help prevent vandalism, we designed a vandal-proof cabinet monument sign with interchangeable letter tracks.
We manufactured the 4’tall x 8’wide x 11”deep double-sided cabinet in-house, using SignComp aluminum extrusion with vandal-proof covers. We used 11ga 4” x 4” steel legs. The cabinet and skirt were painted with Matthews Paints using the Pantone Color Match System. The inner substrate was 3mm MaxMetal with Digital Print (HP Latex 360) graphics, interchangeable letter tracks – the outer substrate was clear .177 Lexan/Polycarbonate.
In planning the two-part install, we called KS One Call to mark public utilities before digging the holes for our footing. Part 1: Dig footing, set and brace legs and rebar cage, set form for pad above grade and pour concrete. Part 2: Pull down concrete forms and braces and install cabinet sign on legs. Install skirt under cabinet, slide in inner substrate and calibrate the vandal-proof doors for ease of operation.
This specific sign was non-illuminated. However, this type of sign is commonly illuminated internally with LED lighting or with external lights.
We were honored to complete this project for a great organization. We know they were pleased with the color combinations and interchangeable letter tracks which better allows for parent/school communication.
