Project: Interior Building ADA Signs & Name Placards
Location: Grandview, MO; Greater Kansas City Area
Client: KDC Construction
Recently, we were contacted by KDC Construction near us located in the College Boulevard Business Center. They contacted us because one of their clients needed interior ADA signs and name placards for their new location along US Highway 71. This project was an important and rush situation as these signs remained one of the final pieces they needed to close the contract with their client.
In the pictures above, you can see some of the interior ADA signs we made for KDC Construction. In the proof here, KDC3, you can see the variety that goes into these signs. How we made them, we will discuss below. The restrooms have braille, many of them have a different name, and each one has to have its own proof prior to production. In the image below, you can see the proofs we used to push through to production.
KDC Construction is a great local company that offers pre-construction consulting, general contracting, design-build, development, and more. What is an ADA sign?
An ADA sign is a sign that meets the specifications laid out by provisions in the American Disabilities Act. Two major provisions are the contrast, requiring a 70% minimum color contrast and the second, braille. As you can see with this project, our main concern was making sure the restrooms met this criteria. We used a ROWMARK color set, white on charcoal gray to ensure the contrast. Then for the restrooms we included braille and male and female pictograms for the design.
When looking into and going about your interior ADA signs, be as specific as possible. Here’s a list of things you should include on your checklist:
- Excel sheet of names, with room numbers
- Sample (if possible)
- Pictures, with sizes
- Brief description of frame
- Color of the frame
- Desired mounting form
- Raised or flat text
All of these minor details will help you and your customers streamline the process of building great interior ADA signs and name placards. As your greater Kansas City area sign provider, we have the expert staff and resources to assist you through your large and small ADA interior and name placard signage.
