New York, New York – How the Heck Are We Different than a Financial Advisor?

SYNOPSIS: We are different than financial advisors in many ways, but one idea that may be helpful in understanding what The Unger Company does is that they are wealth builders, we are wealth protectors.

Contact The Unger Company to learn more about how we can help.[/caption] There’s a corny old saying from department store advertisements of many years ago: We’re not a bank, but we save you money. As corny as that is, there’s a kernel of truth that applies to The Unger Company. We’re not your financial advisor nor your attorney, but we will help to protect your wealth! We set out with an altruistic goal for you and your family: Protect assets so the maximum amount of wealth possible will transfer to the next generation. For high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) families, creating structures to shield assets from estate taxes is a necessity or the tax man can do severe damage. This is a goal we cannot accomplish without your financial advisor (and legal team, but that’s another article) being a participant. Great financial advisors are tremendous professionals who really care and help their clients to build spectacular portfolios and wealth. They understand some of the parts of our business that have to do with insurance, but there is a lot more than just acquiring a policy that goes into how your estate protection and wealth transfer plan needs to be structured. The Unger Company has had many constructive relationships with financial advisors, and partnering with them is an important part of the relationship we form with our clients. While a portfolio is being effectively managed by a financial advisor, we might consider leveraging debt instruments to finance insurance policies held in trust that will someday offset an estate tax that could be incredibly burdensome to your children or grandchildren. Where financial advisors with their many qualifications – CFP (certified financial planner), CFA (chartered financial analyst), ChFC (chartered financial consultant), CPA (certified public accountant), MBA – are very well qualified to effectively manage money, we are a great asset when it comes to protecting that which they have created -- liquid wealth, real estate holdings, businesses, prized collections, and other assets that might need to be sold to satisfy tax bills. The problems created by estate taxes on both the federal and state level can result in assets like a business or a family estate or an art collection being liquidated at fire sale prices. There are many instances of once wealthy families who have seen the depletion of their financial empires begin with estate taxes and a lack of care in managing and planning wealth transfer to future generations. These plans aren’t as scary as it can sound to people not well versed in them, and the business of The Unger Company isn’t as gloomy as someone can imagine it to be. With decades of experience and many clients served, we find that clients actually enjoy the planning aspect of the work we do, and the results they see through the tools we deploy and perspective we bring. The whole process can be very satisfying in someone’s quest to help their heirs and beneficiaries. The Unger Company, Ltd. was launched in 1974 specifically to serve high-net-worth (HNW) and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) clients create a smooth wealth transfer plan to their heirs and beneficiaries. We work hand-in-hand with a client’s trusted team of legal, financial, and accounting professionals to ensure that estate tax issues are resolved before they become a problem. Among the primary goals of our founder Harold Unger is maximum wealth transfer and to create methods for the wishes of our clients to be heard by loved ones after they are no longer here.
