Oftentimes, the typical focal point of a home during Christmas is the tree. Everyone loves wrapping the lights and tinsel around the branches and placing each ornament in the perfect spot. However, you shouldn’t forget about your fireplace mantel! Your mantel can be a stunning work of art not just for the holidays, but any time of year.
To copy the above look, drape lighted garland down the length of the mantelpiece and sides of the mantelpiece. Place candles in red glass to add another dimension of warmth and also to keep them shielded from the garland. Remember to never leave burning flames unattended.
Share the love and use your mantel to show off all the holiday greeting cards you’ve received from dear friends and family this year. You can also punch holes through the cards and thread them with ribbon to hang from the front of the mantel. If you choose to place them next to candles, be sure to keep the open flames in a tall hurricane glass to prevent fires.
For a fun and funky mantel, try using faux snow instead of green garland. Take three to five colored or clear mason jars and fill with them all kinds of glass ornaments. In between the jars, display antique decorations stashed away in the attic like reindeer, snowmen, and tiny wire trees. Then scatter more vintage glass ornaments throughout the fake snow. You can keep everything within the same color palette or you can mix it up for a more eclectic look.
