Here’s a neat sign project we finished recently. Advanced College opened a second campus for nursing students last year. It’s a great place to study, with many student facilities and plenty of fine accommodation. We were honored to be asked to supply the main campus building sign. Advanced College wanted it to be visible at night, and had opted for a channel letter set. We downloaded their brand logos and set to work.
We enjoyed working with the staff at Advanced College. They are extremely easy to get on with, and we could see why the culture there is so conducive to students. Young people from all over the country attend Advanced College to get a quality education to degree level in nursing and allied health. They can study online, which gives them greater flexibility for attending classes. It seems to work. Stockton College opened on the back of the success of the original in South Gate.
We constructed the channel letters using 5” deep black aluminum returns. The lightweight metal is very easy to bend into the shape of any letter. For the faces, we used white vinyl with a 3M vinyl overlaminate applied to reduce UV fading. Black ¾” trim caps finished off a solid look. For illumination, we used white LEDs inserted into the returns and connected to a remote power supply. LEDs are commonly used and are kind to your energy bill.
Our installers are qualified to perform work with electricity and they mounted the channel letters flush to the building’s fascia. The channel letters sign was to be placed close to the roof, so a mobile crane was needed to complete the job. City Signs maintains a good sized fleet of such plant for use in sign installations.
Advanced College now has a channel letter sign for their new campus, which places them firmly on the map. At night, the letters light up bright white and provide a beacon for students returning from their work placement shifts. We used white at the client’s request for this job, but it’s important to note that a range of colors is available. Most LEDs use a combination of red, blue, and green diodes to produce white light. By adjusting these RGB hues, different colors can be achieved, so corporate logos can be replicated accurately.
