In the sign industry there are quite a few different steps in designing, producing, and installing a sign. At City Signs, most of our sign requests come either by phone or online. The first step in the sign process is to collect all important necessary customer information and to understand the type of sign they desire. Simpler signs can be communicated verbally and our designers can go straight to the drawing board. More complex signs, most often exterior, require a survey. Surveys are conducted at the location of install. Measurements are taken of the surface where the sign is going, electrical is assessed and any other important information such as shopping center criteria is obtained.
City Signs designers are then given this information along with survey pictures and the signs begins to take shape in our design program. Every sign that we design requires a proof page like the one displayed. The image and all the artwork are proportionally scaled to size in our programs. The specifications of the sign are listed in the upper left hand corner and the design is transposed on the images to give our customers as accurate idea as possible of what their sign will look like upon completion.
After a proof is created, the image is emailed to the customer for approval or changes. Often times this is where the process can become lengthier as details are discussed and decided upon. Once the artwork meets customer approval we provide an estimate of the cost. Verbal or written approval from our clients on the artwork and the estimate is the green light to produce the sign. Small scale signs are often produced in a couple of days and are available at our shop to pick up or some signs such as window graphics are taken and installed at location. Large scale projects like the one shown are added to the install schedule of one of our sign trucks. Once all permits are collected and the sign is manufactured, our installers take the sign and complete the final step of installing it on the building or surface. Electrical is wired and all the finishing touches are finalized.
