Blogging: The Fastest, Most Reliable Way to Reach Google Page 1
When I started my website development business 10 years ago, I was fortunate to be introduced to a very experienced search engine optimization consultant who brought all his clients to the very top of Google search results. He told me a story that I’d like to pass on to you. He had added a new service to his offerings and wanted to find new clients for this service as soon as possible. So he created a new website and installed blogging software on the new site. He then wrote and published a blog post every single day for 51 days in a row. At the end of those 51 days, his website appeared in position 1 on page 1 of Google search results for all the search terms that were relevant to his new service.
This example illustrates the power of blogging. Google values original, timely, useful information that can help people out and a blog offers a perfect platform for sharing such content. You don’t need to post every day as that search engine expert did. That’s pretty extreme. Blogging once a week or even once a month should be adequate to improve your website ranking.
What to Write About
What do you customers want to know? What kind of information would help them out? You could share tips and advice related to the products or services that you offer. You could talk about the latest news or current events that connect in some way to your business. You could share interesting experiences that you have had with some of your clients. Maybe you solved a difficult issue that somebody was experiencing. What was the problem? How did you fix it? What was the end result? Everyone loves stories and stories generate great material for blog posts. The possibilities for blog post topics are really endless.
Blogging Tips
- You only need 300 to 500 words of content per post. It’s not necessary to write a lot and it’s counter-productive to do that. People aren’t going to want to read long seemingly endless paragraphs of content.
- When you find time in your busy schedule to write, don’t stop at the end of one post. Keep writing! Seize this moment when you feel motivated and create 3, 4 or even 6 posts in one sitting. Your blogging software will allow you to schedule a forward-publishing date for each post.
