IMG_1168  Can we play “three of these things don’t belong”?  The above sign shows what can happen if you hire the lowest price vendor.  The three signs on the right half of the sign weren’t measured correctly so they aren’t centered.  This sign has an odd frame around the right and left side of the sign that eats up almost 2″ of the sign. The bottom and top are only about .75″ which is why the signs have a white gap and don’t look centered.  When Optimum Signs engages in a project we take special care to understand what we are being asked to do. We also like to understand the environment that we are asked to do it in.  In this case, we were asked by the owners of Star Nail in Menomonee Falls to create, print and install a new logo sign in the monument sign in front of their new location.

We started by engaging the property owner to see what his requirements were.  Brian explained that he had a master sign agreement in place with the city so as long as we stayed within the terms of the agreement, we didn’t have to go before the design committee to get the permits for the new signs.  This sped up the procedure, kind of.  The agreement called for certain colors like 3M Red or 3M Green.  The only problem is that 3M has 11 different reds and 9 different greens. Plus, we don’t use cut vinyl to make our signs. They are all custom printed using the latest technology which means we can print some where in the area of several hundred different reds.  This made the process take a little longer as we had to explain our technology to the city and that we designed the sign using “midway” colors.  No extremes, just basic colors. The transitional colors caused a bit of a stir as we have the ability to print gradient colors.

When we went to install the new lenses, we noticed that one of the signs had a fair amount of rust on the inside of the sign which means it’s leaking.  Nothing causes more problems for monument signs than water.  Once the water gets inside the cabinet it can subject the electronics to rust.  Electricity and water do not mix and when you enclose the two inside a cabinet there is nothing good that come out of this. We recommended to the owner that we replace the trim molding on both sides of the sign as the current one was put on wrong and doesn’t seal the top of the sign.

Overall a very successful design and install for Star Nail.  If you happen to have need for a new sign on a monument sign, or you need a new monument sign, please call Optimum Signs at 262.289.9481 or email us at info@optimumsignswi.com.
