Mary Jane’s CBD Dispensary – Memphis | The Beginner’s Guide to Delta 8 CBD

What is Delta 8?

Delta-8-THC is a minor cannabinoid derived from hemp that produces the same pleasurable effects as Delta-9 THC but without the anxiety and paranoia.

What is the difference between cannabis, marijuana and hemp?

Cannabis is divided into two species: Hemp and Marijuana.

CBD and Delta-8 products are derived from the Hemp plant, not the Marijuana plant.

What is the difference between Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC?

Delta-9 THC, also known as Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol or -9-tetrahydrocannabinol (-9-THC), is a cannabinoid molecule found in marijuana (cannabis) that has long been recognized as the primary psychoactive ingredient responsible for the “high” feeling experienced by marijuana users. It has been linked to some common side effects such as mood enhancement, sedation, relaxation, laughter, memory impairment, and hunger.

Delta-8 THC is a lesser-known cannabinoid; the main distinction between the two is that Delta-8 is slightly less psychoactive than Delta-9. This means that Delta-8 THC products have a more gradual effect on the consumer.

What does Delta 8 feel like?

Delta-8 THC produces mild psychoactive effects that are around 50-70% of the strength of Delta-9 THC. Most describe the feeling of Delta-8 as a mild body sensation that brings an uplifting, happy, and relaxing mood.

How is Delta 8 legal?

When the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law, it federally legalized all Hemp products containing less than 0.3 percent Delta 9-THC. Since then, scientists have figured out how to extract Delta 8 THC in hemp while also reducing the Delta 9-THC content to less than 0.3 percent, making Delta 8 THC completely legal.

How much Delta 8 should I take?

For those unfamiliar with the effects of Delta 8, understand that Delta 8 is a psychoactive cannabinoid, while CBD is not. While Delta 8’s psychoactive properties will be milder than those of Delta 9 THC, still, those who are more sensitive or new to THC in general will likely want to take it slow. Here are some factors that can influence your experience with Delta 8:

  1. Bodyweight – Typically, those with a higher body weight should take slightly higher doses, and the same applies to those who have a lower body weight.
  2. Tolerance to THC – Delta 8 and delta 9 share enough in common that if you have a high tolerance to one, it will likely translate to a high tolerance to the other. As a rule of thumb, unless you are a regular cannabis user, start LOW and go SLOW.
  3. Your Goals – What are you using delta 8 for?  Are you looking for a subtle sense of relaxation, or do you want to have an extraordinarily strong delta 8 experience.

How do I take Delta 8?

Delta 8 can be smoked, vaporized, or consumed. However, each delivery method absorbs into the body in a different way. Some absorb quickly and efficiently, causing the effects to be felt strongly. Other methods require more time to absorb, so the effects will be felt more subtly.

Ingesting vs. Inhaling

  • Edibles

Delta-8-THC tends to exhibit a lower psychotropic potency than THC when inhaled. When ingested, however, delta-8-THC can deliver the same intoxicating effects as THC. This being said, be mindful when trying delta-8-THC edibles for the first time and use the same caution you would with THC edibles. With edibles like gummies, 10 to 40 milligrams counts as a standard dose, with 10 being ideal for total beginners.

  • Delta 8 Carts

Delta 8 vape carts are the most popular delivery method-when it comes to dosing, it’s believed that one to three puffs count as a single dose, with one being ideal for someone totally new to Delta 8.  However, keep in mind factors like how deeply you inhale and how much you take into your mouth at once will slightly alter how strongly you feel the delta 8.

  • Delta 8 Flower

Delta 8 flower is a raw hemp flower infused with a delta 8 extract. As with cartridges, the same rule applies in that 1.5 milligrams counts as a standard dose, and 1 to 3 puffs is a good amount to start with.  But, with delta 8 flowers, it’s harder to be precise with the milligrams, largely because the delta 8 may not be evenly distributed throughout the flower.  Therefore, we recommend sticking with the 1 to 3 puffs rule, going with just 1 and waiting 20 minutes before taking another if you’re totally new to THC.
