- Acrolein, a pesticide usually used to kill weeds, is also included in e-cigarettes. It can induce COPD and acute lung injury, as well as asthma and lung cancer.
- Secondhand e-cigarette emissions are formed when an e-cigarette user exhales the chemical cocktail formed by e-cigarettes. Both the US Surgeon General and the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine have warned about the dangers of breathing secondhand e-cigarette emissions.
- Secondhand emissions contain “nicotine; ultrafine particles; flavorings such as diacetyl, a chemical linked to serious lung disease; volatile organic compounds such as benzene, which is found in car exhaust; and heavy metals, such as nickel, tin, and lead,” according to the Surgeon General’s report from 2016.
- The FDA has determined that no e-cigarette is both safe and effective in aiding smokers in quitting. If smokers are ready to give up smoking for good, they should call 1-800-Stop NOW or consult their doctor about the best way to quit utilizing tried-and-true methods, FDA-approved treatments, and counseling.
