Elevating Perspectives: Connecting Employees

BY: Your Name, Your Business

In a recent podcast episode, Jason Ballard, a seasoned business coach, and motivator, explores the significant impact of aligning employees with a company’s bigger strategic picture. Ballard is widely recognized for his expertise in accelerating personal and business goals worldwide for a broad spectrum of professionals.

Ballard acknowledges most employees are deeply entrenched in their day-to-day tasks. They remain focused on their routine activities, from handling customer complaints and answering emails to managing daily hitches. These daily responsibilities, tailored according to their skill set and level within the company, often keep them engrossed in their immediate scope of work.

However, Ballard suggests employees, irrespective of their role or level, benefit immensely from a higher-level understanding of the organization’s strategic picture. He emphasizes the need for leaders to pull employees ‘out of the weeds’ of daily tasks and give them a broader perspective of the company’s goals and objectives. This essentially involves answering the question: ‘What is all of this for?’

According to Ballard, showing the ‘big picture’ to employees, making them understand it, and connecting them to it is a vital responsibility of a leader. It provides employees with a sense of purpose and ties their daily tasks to larger company goals, creating a more profound sense of engagement and motivation.

In this regard, Ballard’s insights reveal two critical aspects of leadership: the ability to articulate the ‘big picture’ and the skill to align employees with this vision. The strategic picture should not be an exclusive realm of company leadership. Instead, it should be shared and understood at every level of the organization.

This perspective transforms the way employees see their roles. Instead of viewing their tasks as isolated activities, they see them as crucial components contributing to the company’s objectives. This sense of involvement can enhance job satisfaction, increase motivation, and boost productivity.

Jason Ballard underscores the role of leaders in bridging the gap between employees’ daily tasks and the broader company vision. He proposes motivation within the workplace can be significantly amplified by enabling employees to connect with the ‘big picture.’ This holistic approach fosters a sense of shared purpose and creates a more engaged and energized workforce, ultimately driving the company toward its strategic objectives.
