My name is Richard Connor and I am the co-founder of a cybersecurity company here in Louisville, Kentucky. So Jason and I started working together a few years ago: he was actually my supervisor and we kept in touch after we both left that position.
I learned about his coaching, we kind of talked – [Jason] wasn’t really sales-y about it, but certainly dropped the line: “Hey if you ever want to work together, here’s what I’m doing now. I really enjoyed working with you before and would love to work with you again.”
So Jason was very patient: there were a lot of things that he would encourage me to do that I wasn’t comfortable with, certainly in the beginning. But he was persistent, patient, always supportive of where I was and what I was comfortable with, and just continued to be very encouraging throughout the process.
Jason is a connector: he’s taught me to be a connector as well. Instead of seeing people and other companies as competition, look for opportunities: are there ways that you can work together, are there ways that you can help a customer by combining forces to deliver even better products and services?
This past year I probably met more people than I ever have in my previous years. So the expansion of the connections in people I work with and people I have strategic relationships and strategic partnerships with is directly related to the change of mindset and in the change of the way that I interact with people and interact with other companies.
Jason has helped shape my goals further than what I would set for myself: if I set them here, we talked about how can we push them up to here? And eventually, we reset the expectations: this is part of the strategy of meeting on an ongoing basis – so really helping shaping those goals and how to achieve them.
