Even if the injury was caused by negligence of the employee, they’re still covered. Under workers’ comp laws, it’s also illegal for the company to retaliate against an employee who has a workers’ comp issue. This is true even if the employer believes the injury didn’t happen at the workplace and the employee disagrees. While all workers’ comp policies cover employees of a business, even independent contractors who are working on a jobsite can be eligible for workers’ comp coverage. In California, the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California has a website which allows anyone to obtain the workers’ comp insurance provider for any company in the state.
